Hi, You probably have the information below but just in case. Since the NPRC stated his records probably burned, you might contact the Washington County Clerk's office or the State Archives in Mississippi to see if they have his full enlistment and discharge papers. As I understand it, they had to register their discharges where they enlisted. Those papers should tell you what unit he was first assigned to and the last unit he was assigned to.
If he obtained VA benefits, they should have something as well. If he has passed and had a military funeral, contact the Sexton of the cemetery where he is buried as well as the funeral home that handled the burial. They may have some of his records.
