Also, you might contact the State Archives and County Clerk's offices of Florida and Alabama to see if he registered his discharge with them. That will give you more information as well if he survived the war.
Also, if he survived, check with any vet groups he joined as well as the VA if he was receiving VA benefits.
Also contact the Sexton of the Cemetery and the funeral home that handled his burial if he has passed.
