That was a wonderful story. So glad you posted it. I was a kid during the war and even though we kids were busy collecting grease, newspapers, old metal, etc., for the war effort, inside we were scared, especially after Tarawa. By that time we were old enough to fully realize what was going on and the possibility that we could lose the war.
