Unusual Marine Medal

I attended a Winging Ceremony yesterday and one of the new pilots was wearing a black medal under his ribbons that looked like two dolphins on either side a sub. I was told by a WWII soldier that he was also a submariner. The wings he received yesterday were Navy gold wings. I could not find pilot after ceremony to ask about it. My photo of pilot wearing medal not too clear.

Does anyone have any information on medal?

Marilyn
