Bettelyoun Flats was named for Isaac Bettelyouns, a french-canadian trapper who built a cabin there ca 1867. He married a Sioux Indian lady I believe. That is why the family went to S.D.--the reservation was there and they were able to obtain schooling, etc. from their Indian heritage. Sharon.
