I am a descendant of George and Margaret Robinson, who were from Darlington, England and sailed from Liverpool on the Horizon in 1856 and became part of the Martin Handcart Company. They traveled with two daughters (Elizabeth and Dorothy) and one young son, George. After walking from Iowa City to Guthrie County, Iowa, George either got last or refused to go on. As it was time for the Company to leave, the father George stayed behind with young George and the three woman traveled with the Company. I believe all three woman made it to Salt Lake City. Elizabeth married one of the Rescuers, Gibson Condie and had many children. In Utah, the three women were reunited with the elder son William Robinson, who had traveled to Utah with Mormons a few years earlier. I am not sure what happened to Dorothy. Margaret died not too many years later.

The elder George died in the 1956/1957 Iowa winter and the younger George was taken in by a family, fought in the Civil War, and raised a family. He was my Great, Great Grandfather. Shortly before his death (1911), George traveled to Utah to visit his family there.

In the Martin Company rosters I have seen, they are listed as "Margaret Robison and family" with the last name misspelled.

Good luck with your project.

Jeff Robinson
