My family owns what was the Gilchrist Ranch, it is just west of the present day Gilchrist school. One of the two houses Andrew and his brother built are on our land and the other is also still standing, but not owned by us. The second house, which we believe he never actually lived in is at the 15 mile marker on Happy Jack, the house we believe he did live in is at the 14 mile marker and half a mile south of the road. Please email me with any info you have on the Gilchrist Family, although we are not related They feel like family and I have been very interested in them for quite some time now. Andrew was married to Mary, had a brother, David ( I think that is his name) and his mother also came to live with him, her name was Catherine If I remember correctly. If you look him up in the 1880 census you will find him, his wife, brother, mother and a handfull of workers who were all living with or close to him. He was a brilliant irrigation engineer and built many irrigtaion ditches we still use today, he also did work in Wheatland WY, where a street is named after him. He was also involved with bringing Elwood Mead to Wyoming to help with water developement, Mead for whom lake Mead is named after. Andrew is mentioned as meeting Mead at the train station when he arrived in Cheyenne in the Selected Writings of Elwood Mead.
