SCHERMERHORN DEATH, HELP NEEDED PLEASE.

Hi

I am trying to locate a death record/details on a Cecil H. Schermerhorn who died about two years after the end of WWII somewhere in the United States.

Cecil was born in Iowa in 1923 or 1924, and in the 1930 US Census was in 'Iowa Soldiers Orphans Home' in Davenport, Scott County, Iowa.

During WWII Cecil was a tail gunner on a B-17G Flying Fortress based in England with the Eighth Air Force. In January 1945 the B-17G Cecil was on crashed during take-off with the tragic loss of five of the nine man crew. Three of the crew who died are buried here in England.

About two or three years after the end of WWII Cecil was involved in a car crash which killed Cecil and his family. At the moment it is not known to what extent 'family' means, whether Cecil was just married, or married with children of if he was with his father etc. During his time in England he was not married, so any marriage took place after he returned to the USA. The details i have on the car crash is that Cecil was blinded by the headlights of an oncoming car and crashed into a bridge.

If anybody can help in anyway, even if it is to discount this accident happening in this State, would be greatly appreciated, not only by me but also by relatives of the crewmembers who were involved in the B-17G crash.

Thankyou for your time and help.

Regards

Chris.
