I am searching to find what became of my grandmother after she split with my grandfather.
She was born Elsie (Essie) E. Pitts 2 Jul 1893 Dallas, Fremont, Wyoming, married Jesse P. Mortimore 7 Oct 1909. They had three children, David, Daniel, and Genevieve. Genevieve was the last born in 1916.
The 1920 census has here living in a Lander hotel working as chamber maid. She had left the family and her children with relatives never to return. I don't know when the divorce took place or who she subsequently married. I can find no trace of her since that time. There is speculation that she remarried and left the State. However I was told by my father that he thought she was buried in Thermopolis. There does not seem to be an index for graves there. Also I don't have a last name to search.
Anyone have any idea how I can find who she married or where she went? I am under the impression that many records of that period in Lander were lost in a fire or other disaster.
