Eric - I have JOHNS in my direct line, who reportedly were originally known as YAHN. The name change was apparently made when my gr-gr-grandfather sailed for America. He came from the City/State of Hannover in 1853, prior to the establishment of modern Germany.

You surname appears to indicate the family came from Yahn. Do you know if there is a city or town named Yahn in Northern Germany? If so, we might possibly have a common link somewhere on the family tree.

Bob T.
