Osborn Fitz Gerald (Osbwrn, or Osbern, Wyddel)

Does anybody know where the connection between Osborn the Irishman and the John Fitz Thomas-Fitz Gerald, Lord of
Decies and Desmond came from. On the newsgroups for medieval genealogy it is discounted as false, and as of yet all I have seen to Support it is "The Yales and Wales." I can't remeber if the 1850 family history by Elihu Yale had this connection or not, but as I recall it only goes 2 or so generations prior to the family coming over from England/Wales.

Anybody got a source good enough to at least make an arguement?
