The book "Libertad y servidumbre en el Puerto Rico del siglo XIX" by Fernando Pico mentions the very first Yambo's. They were Juan Monserrate and Mauricia. Both were freed slaves circa 1828. Juan Monserrate adopted the name of his African ethnic group. He had five sons. One of them was named Pedro Yambo (the name also appears as "Llambo"). I have not been able to find more information about Juan and Mauricia's family.
