Deceased Name: Clarence R. Yancy Jr.
SPRINGFIELD - Clarence "Bob" R. Yancy Jr., 82, of Springfield, died Monday, Oct. 16, 2006, at St. John's Hospice.
He was born March 2, 1924, in Philadelphia, the son of Clarence and Edith Black Yancy Sr. He married Helen M. Ratliff in 1949; she died in 2005.
Mr. Yancy served with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers 28th Division during World War II. He retired as a pipe fitter from CILCO in 1982 after 33 years. He was a former member of Church of Christ in Ashland.
Survivors: daughter, Marie (husband, Roger) Sturgeon of Springfield; son, Clarence R. (wife, Carole) Yancy III of Athens; two grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four sister, Lela Tenbusch of Springfield, Helen Anderson of Oregon, Dorothy Woods of Jacksonville and Shirley (husband, Robert) Lyons of Virginia; three brothers, Oliver Yancy of Arizona, Charles (wife, Donna) Yancy of Auburn and Walter (wife, Rose) Yancy of Philadelphia; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services: 12:30 p.m. Friday, Staab Funeral Home, the Rev. Chad Pickering officiating. Burial: Roselawn Memorial Park.
