My primary interest is the descendents of David Shrum, namely the descendents of his daughter, Mary, who married Jacob Yankey.

Rockingham County court house records show that on 28 July 1788, Mary Shrum, orphan of David, was bound over to Christian Dedimore by overseers of the poor. Mary was born 10 years earlier, on 15 February 1778. On 19 December 1796 Mary Shrum was married to Jacob Yankey by John Welch.

Family information, an 1839 letter, indicates that thirteen children were born to this union. Five of these were already deceased - three had families and two died single.
The names of four of the male Yankey children are known: Andrew, John, Samuel, and Jacob.

Abraham Snider married Mary's sister, Catherine Shrum, on 26 September 1796. There was a later Rockingham County land transaction between the Yankey's and Abraham Snider. On 22 May 1799 Jacob and Mary Yankey sold a 50 acre parcel to Abraham Snider for 40 dollars.

Any information on the Yankey or Snider families, or the descendents of these two couples would be greatly appreciated. You may post a reply on this message board or contact me directly at
