Ladies, I just begun my research 4 mos ago on my Smith/Yarbrough line that originated in Cherokee Area of AL/GA line. Primarily the Lamar, Graham, Rockdale area of AL (right on the GA line). In my research and family tales, I've heard this term also but not related to my family. Someone outside of the family that is helping me told it to me. I was told that Black Dutch referred to African American and whites mixing, as well as hearing that it was Indian and Whites mixing. Who really knows. I do know that I'm stumped because I am told that I don't have INdian roots w/ SMith/Yarbrough BUT I found two of my relatives names on the Cherokee Guinn Miller Pension rolls. I have yet to pull the applications but my ggrandfather was William J. Endi-Olee Smith (I'm told her went by Nolie). A 2nd cousin told me she always wondered where the Endi-Olee came from. I believe somewhere int he line he came from one of the five Cherokee tribes that were forced out during the Trail of Tears OR possibly some that slipped through and didn't leave! Any ideas?
