Just happened upon the Yarber site again, and the subject of this posting caught my eye. My dad used to tell me that some of his great grandparents were Dutch, and that he heard them speaking it to each other. Dad's grandfather was Joshua Yarber, all of them lived in the Grandfather Mountain area of Western North Carolina. I kind of thought maybe he was hearing German, makes sense, but I never actually heard the Black Dutch term myself. My dad passed away in 1998 unexpectedly and I never got to record everything I wanted to. Dad had blue eyes and sandy blonde hair, but he had a brother and a sister that were dark eyed and dark skinned. His uncle was very dark skinned and dark eyed, as were his children, I heard it said that they had Indian in the Yarber line, don't know. It appears my Yarber ancestors came to Grandfather Mountain area through Charleston, S.C. I just thought it interesting that someone besides me has heard the Dutch thing mentioned in the family.
