Emma Elizabeth Yaw and George Frederick Cahill

Hi Y'all,

This is Christopher Cahill Woodfill. Last week for the first time, I found out all about the Yaw family from the website on the Yeaw/Yaw family. I was flabbergasted when I "accidentally" solved the mystery of who my great-grandfather George Frederick Cahill was.

George Frederick Cahill was the eldest of Emma Elizabeth Yaw and Thomas E. Cahill's seven children. Yaw and Cahill were married on Dec. 24, 1871 in Cuba, New York. George Frederick was born on August 24, 1873. He married my great-grandmother Edith Augusta Jones on December 1896 in Olean, New York. Cahill and Jones produced three children of whom Harold Victor Cahill(Woodfill) was my grandfather.

I believe the owner of the Yeaw/Yaw family website was stumped since the website did not list any further descendants from the three children of Cahill and Jones. The reason may be that Edith Augusta Jones divorced George Frederick Cahill in 1910 and immediately married Earl A. Woodfill. The three children Gertrude Ella, Emma, and Harold Victor Cahill had their last name changed to Woodfill. I have the record of the divorce petition which showed that George Frederick Cahill (son of Emma Elizabeth Yaw and Thomas E. Cahill) abandoned the family. I also have the petition which legally changed the three children's last name from Cahill to Woodfill.

Edith Augusta Jones Cahill Woodfill never spoke of George Frederick Cahill and his family. She lived well into her nineties but never divulged the information on her first husband and the reasons of the divorce. The descendants of this couple had been trying to find information on George Frederick Cahill. What a blessing to find that website which showed that I am a direct descendant of the following: George Frederick Cahill, Emma Elizabeth Yaw/Thomas E. Cahill, Jesse W. Yaw/Lucy Maria Powell, Theodore Yaw/Alvira Bassett, Moses Yaw/Lydia Jones, Amos Yaw/Mary Franklin, and finally David and Jean Yeaw or Yaugh.

I would like to do a few things resulting from this discovery. I would like to get in touch from the relations of the following people I listed above. I would like to have my family participate in the Yaw/Yeaw family reunion discussed elsewhere in this forum. I would like to contact the owner of the Yeaw/Yaw family website to update the information on the Emma Elizabeth Yaw family branch.

Finally but not the least, I would love it if anybody knows if there are Deaf people within the Yeaw/Yaw and/or Cahill family. I am Deaf. My deafness is hereditary and I have not found a single case of deafness anywhere else in my family branches. The branches spreading out from George Frederick Cahill was a black hole up to this point. Maybe incidence of Deafness within the Yaw/Yeaw family will answer the question on where I got my hereditary deafness from. I work as a history teacher at the Wisconsin School for the Deaf in Delavan, Wisconsin.

Please feel free to contact me at Woodfcc@wsd.k12.wi.us

Please do contact me. I would be more than thrilled to correspond with my distant relations from the Yaw/Yeaw family. My family would be also. They have been trying in vain to search for information and relations of George Frederick Cahill. My family is now in a tizzy about finally solving the mystery of who this person was.

Many thanks,

Chris
