YBARRA is a Basque Surname. The Basque Country incorporates 3 provinces of Southern France and 4 provinces in Northern Spain: Vizcaya, Navarra, Alava and Guipuzcoa. It is a beautiful region. The surname means "Riverbank." Most Basque surnames had origin in the place or location of the original family home. So, in this case, it is likely that the home was on or near a riverbank. Also, this is not an uncommon surname since there were a number of Riverbanks available near which one might build a home hundreds of years ago.Because the name is not uncommon there are also numerous coats of arms associated with the surname.
