Re: COUNTING KINDRED....another error

In Reply to: COUNTY KINDRED as an authoritative source by Dale Bricker of 186

I just found out another error that Counting Kindred made with regard to the Bricker family.

On page 229, it states that "Ann Bricker, second wife of Peter Zimmerman, Sr., is mentioned as wife of Peter Zimmerman in her father Peter Bricker, Jr.'s will, dated June 13, 1769. Probated May 30, 1774, book 1, Page 115, reading Court House, Berks Co., Pa. He mentions his only son John and two daughters, Barbara, wife of Peter Desther, and Ann, wife of Peter Zimmerman, of Cocalico Township, Lanc. Co., Pa. Said two daughters of Peter Bricker, late of Heidelberg Twp., Berks Co., Pa."

If by "Peter Bricker, Jr" is meant the son of Peter Bricker of Cocalico Township, who arrived in Pennsylvania in 1732 aboard the ship "Plaisance", then the author of Counting Kindred is wrong. Peter Bricker, Jr. died in Cumberland County in 1804. He was the husband of Mary Baer and the son of Christina Julchy (Ueltschi) as well as of Peter Bricker, Sr. of Cocalico Township.

BRICKER, PETER, yeoman, Allen Township.
April 14, 1804. September 13, 1804.
Wife Mary.
Son Peter Bricker.
Land bought of Jacob Weise.
Land bought of William Hameroley.
Six daus., viz., Elizabeth wife of George Brindle, Barbara wife David Brenizer, Magdalen wife of Jacob Miller, Mary wife John Beshor, Catherine Bricker and Susanna Bricker.
Exs: Adam Brandt and John Barr.
Wit: Jacob Crever, Jacob Weise. G. 40-41.

On the other hand, the Peter Bricker referred to in Counting Kindred arrived in Pennsylvania aboard the "Charming Nancy" in 1737.

Ship's manifest of the "Charming Nancy" of 1737:

Men:

BRUCKER or BRUIKER, Peter

Women:

BRUIKER, Anna

Children:

BRUIKER, Anna
BRUIKER, Barbara
BRUIKER, Hans

This Peter Bricker's last will and testament:

BRUCKER, PETER, Heidelberg.
June 13, 1769 - May 30, 1774.

Provides for wife Anna.
To only son Johannes, all my
right and title to the land
and he shall pay to his 2
sisters Barbara and Anna 100
each.

Exrs: wife Anna and friend
Mathias NAPHZIGER. Letters to
NAPHZIGER, the widow renouncing.
Wit: Johannes ROOS, George GARTNER,
Wilhelm CAFFROTH.

The purpose of the above information is merely to indicate that again that caution is advised when using Counting Kindred as a source.
