Benedict Juchli (Yeagley) came to America in 1736 which would have made him 28 years old. To be a member of the Church of the Brethren you did not have to be celibate. Or he may have joined after he arrived in America. At this time there was a lot of religious ferver and the Cloister was aggressivley recruiting members. Records say he may have been a Swenkfelder. I have the Swenkfleder book and there were many Yeagley's (Yeakley's) who were members of this church. In records of the ship it alludes to this tie. Even in the Ephrata Cloister there were members who were not celibate although Benedict was said to be one of the Brethren. He was a wealthy and well educated man and gave funds for a Grist Mill for the Cloister. He became disenchanted with the order and with the understanding he was going to Switzerland for more funds he went to Phillidelphia(sp.) and died in 1741 before he could get to Switzerland.
