This posting is a follow-up to my earlier posting regarding the Yearwoods/Earwoods, Arrowoods/Arwoods of western NC from 1778-1800. It seems as if the Arwood/Arrowood line is different from the Yearwood/Earwood group, but their proximity to each other and the association of the names as variations are striking enough to warrant further investigation. 1754 Surry County, VA John & Katherine Yearwood & son Robert, b. 1752 1762 Halifax County, NC John Earwood witnessing will of Green Emry, and also shown as landholder adjacent to Green Emry in a deed the same year. 1778 Rowan, NC John Earwood, possibly John of Halifax Joseph Earwood, possibly son of John Martin Earwood, possibly son of John John Arrowood, same Militia Dist as Earwoods James Arrowood, same Militia Dist as Earwoods Burke, NC Robert Erwood, making improvements on Hugh Brevard land, formerly owned by John Fish, possibly son of John in Rowan 1790 Rowan, NC Joseph Garwood p. 170, possibly Joseph Earwood James Ariwood p. 171 Ann Arriwood p. 171 Benjamin Yarwood p.178 Lincoln, NC William Earwood p. 111 Thomas Earwood p. 111 John Earwood p. 111 Mary Earwood p. 111 John Arrowood p. 114 Zachariah Arrowood p.115 Queen Anne, MD John Arwood p. 101 1791 Washington County, GA Robert Yearwood from Burke, NC 1794 Warren County, GA Andrew Earwood, son of Robert, 300 acres on Big Creek & Ogechee River just across Washington County, GA line 1800 Rowan, NC John Arrowood, Sr. p. 430 45+ years John Arrowood, Jr. p. 430 26-45 James Arrowood p. 430 45+ Henry Arrowood p. 430 26-45 Jacob Garrawood p. 431 26-45 Thomas Garrawood p. 431 16-26 Henry Harawood p. 432 26-45 John Harawood p. 432 26-45 James Arrawood p. 435 45+ Lincoln, NC William Earwood, Sr. p. 813 45+ William Earwood, Jr. p. 813 26-45 Thomas Earwood p. 813 45+ John Earwood p. 813 26-45 Daniel Earwood p. 813 26-45 Benjamin Arriwood p. 883 26-45 Rutherford, NC James Arrowood p. 94 26-45 Benjamin Earwood p. 108 26-45 Mary Earwood p. 109 45+ Edmund Earwood p. 109 26-45 Pendleton, SC Robert Earwood p. 39 45+ H. Anders Earwood p. 39 26-45 (Andrew) Understanding that Burke, Lincoln, and Rutherford counties were all created from Rowan and Tryon counties, one can surmise that these families did not move around as much as it would appear. I am convinced that 1778 Burke Robert Erwood is the same as 1800 Pendleton Robert Earwood based on a bond produced in Lincoln County Court of Pleas in 1809 that showed Hugh Brevard made title to a piece of land to Robert Earwood in October 1778. Robert shows up as making improvements to a piece of land owned by Hugh Brevard in Burke County in July 1778. Hugh Brevard obviously sold the piece of land to Robert in October 1778. Andrew Earwood also shows up in the Court of Pleas of Lincoln in 1806, which seems to be the Andrew Yearwood of Habersham County, GA. Looking for any connections between Arwoods/Arrowoods and Yearwoods/Earwoods, as well as thoughts on conclusion of Robert being part of the Lincoln County crowd, being brother to William, Sr., Thomas, and John, all four of which possibly sons to John of Halifax. What say ye fellow Yearwood researchers? Please e-mail or reply post with thoughts or questions. Andrew Yearwood
