James, I looked at your webpage & am really glad that you have posted your info. My line is from Mary Yearwood who married Jacob Weist in Rutherford County, NC in Dec. 1794. Most researchers I have spoken with believe she is a daughter of Mary & Martin Yearwood of Lincoln County & perhaps this is correct. I am somewhat suspicious of Benjamin Yearwood/Yarwood of Rutherford County I do not know much about him at this point other than he mortgaged land @ the South Creek of 1st Broad River in Rutherford County, NC in 1804 to William Murray. I cannot help but wonder if this is the same Benjamin Yarwood who shows up in the 1790 Rowan Co. NC Census.
Benjamin is someone I'd like to know more about since every one of my early Weist generations named sons Benjamin. Perhaps he was Mary's brother and they were named for him but I have the nagging doubt about him being her father, that would seem more likely with 5 Benjamin Weist/Weast being named such in the early 1800's. There is a record that I found that you need to be aware of. I saw where you mentioned there is no proof of a NC connection to the VA Yearwoods/Earwoods. I do believe there is such a record located in the 1880 Mortality Schedule of Rutherford Co. NC. It lists "WILLIAM EARWOOD, WHITE, MALE, AGED 69 YEARS, BORN NC, MOTHER BORN IN VA, FATHER BORN IN VA, CAUSE OF DEATH-CHEST DROPSEY." This seems to me to show a definite VA link. I hope to really begin some serious work on this line soon, I have been trying to get to it and something always comes up. Will post records located on this web page as I find them. Sharon/NC
