Earwood/Yearwood Confusion

I have been looking at some census records and have found Earwood listed as Earwood, Yearwood, Yeawood and Yeorwood. I am pretty positive that most of these are one and the same. I started to take a look at some of the gedcom files on Ancestry. Com and on Rootsweb.Com and I am finding much of the same thing. I am pretty sure that the huge bunch of Yearwoods in the Sweetwater area of Rutherford Co. TN are actually from some of the Earwoods or the other way around. We will probably never know for sure because of the lack of many records much in the early days but we need to look at all variations of the name and especially Yearwood. I had been told before that I wouldn't be able to get very far without including the name Yearwood. I am now beleiving it. I find it difficult to find very much on Yearwood back in the early days just as we do on Earwood. I am all but positive that there were a few that came here with the name Yearwood and are probably not related but it sure is going to be a pain to separate them. Most of the spelling was the way that the record taker "heard" the name since most
could not read or write. The four that are found in the first census in Lincoln Co., NC as Earwood could have meant for it to be Yearwood. I have also seen the name spelled Irwood, Arwood and Erwood. I think that
there is a line of Arwoods that are not connected with Earwood/Yearwood
but probably are variation of the Arrowood name which I am sure is another different line and not connected to the Earwood/Yearwood line.
The census records that I was comparing were for NC, SC and GA. If any
of you out there has any Earwood/Yearwood census records for any part
of the world, how about placing them on http:www.genforum.com/yearwood and then we could compare them. I will try to get what I have together and put them on the forum. Bill
