3 Y kids, MO 1860, whose are they?
Questions:
1)Did 1850 Linn County, MO census list children of households?
2)To whom did Martha, Frances, and John belong?
3)Were Frances and John YOAKUM twins?
Statements of fact:
1860 Linn County, MO census lists a female child as residing in household of Jesse P. YOAKUM and Mary Ellen PAYNE.
YOAKUM, Frances 13 y/o female born in state of MO
1860 Linn County, MO census lists two children residing in household of George YOAKUM and Sarah ?.
YOAKUM, Martha 15 y/o female born in state of MO
YOAKUM,John 13 y/o male born in state of MO
Children were NOT listed on 1850 census nor the 1870 census.
No other YOAKUM households listed on Linn County census (1850, 1860, 1870).
In 1840 Linn County, MO census, neither George, Sarah, nor Jesse were listed.
First sighting of George, Sarah, and Jesse are in 1850 Linn County, MO census.
Oldest KNOWN child of Jesse and Mary Ellen was 9 y/o in 1860 Linn County census.
Jesse's wife, Mary Ellen PAYNE, is listed in census as being born in state of MO.
Therefore:
* IF the 1850 Linn County census did NOT list children of households, it could be that these three in question WERE residing with George and Sarah.
* MIGHT be the children of George and Sarah with Jesse & Mary Ellen in care of Frances.
* The three children are PROBABLY not of Jesse P. and Mary Ellen.
- It is POSSIBLE that they are of a previous marriage of Jesse, although no such marriage is in evidence.
* MIGHT be children of another YOAKUM family with George and Jesse acting as caretakers of them.
* MIGHT be bonded servants who simply took the YOAKUM name.
* MIGHT have different last names but were listed as YOAKUM.
- Because George & Jesse distrusted a census or were "hiding" the kids for other reasons.
- Might have been "orphans" in care of Jesse and George and simply "took" the YOAKUM name.
Any ideas out there???????
