variant spellings

I guess I get to kick this off: One of my lines is the Yost family from York County, PA. But there were several instances of variant spellings in the 19th and 20th centuries:

The second wife of my gggrandfather, Charles Kauffman Yost, was listed as Julia Ann Yoast in the 1900 census.

In the Spring Grove Cemetery in Jackson Township, the daughter of Catherine and John Yoost is listed as Sarah Yoast.

In my great grandaunt's family Bible, her father is referred to as "Grandfather Youst".

So, anyone researching a Yoast line should keep in mind that there were variants along the way. They probably all descended from Jost or Joost in the beginning.
