Yon to Yaughn
My great-great-great grandfather was Fleming Yon b. 1780.He moved his family to Georgia around 1825 from South Carolina. He was married to Rebeca b. 1793 and his children were Fleming, Jr., Mary, Irvin and Frederick.I’m looking for information about his parents and relationship to Charles Yon b 1795 married to Harreth b. 1798.It appears they both came to Georgia at the same time. They may be brothers.Any help in how to research information before 1800 in SC would be appreciated.
It appears another deviation of the Yon surname (YAUGHN) can be added to the list. This one started in the 1880 census of Crawford County, Ga when almost all the previous YON/YAUN/YAWN surnames were changed to YAUGHN , a name I found listed as a surname of the Amonsoquath Tribe of Cherokee Indians.I have no clue as to why this spelling was applied to the residents of Crawford County and never have Ifound this spelling before 1880.
From some of the earlier discussion,I also found many interactions with descendants of Yons and Huttos with at least three marriages in Crawford County between 1840 and 1900.E-Mail me if you think I have information you can use.
