Jesse Yon, Calhoun County, Florida
RE: Jesse YON - b. 12/21/1790, SC – d. 12/21/1863, Calhoun County Florida
I am having a very hard time connecting Jesse to any of his ancestors. Many researchers suggest, or take as fact, that his father was Jacob YOUN (YON). I don’t deny this, but I have yet to find any information supporting it.
I obtained a copy of a Jacob YOUN’s estate settlement (filed 4 August 1800 – Newberry County) in the SC archives. There wasn’t a ‘Silver Bullet’ contained in the documents, but they did list his widow Margaret Hughey as administrator of the estate along with her new husband James Hughey. More interestingly, it listed Jacob YOUN’s legatees as:
Elizabeth BALDEREE
John YOUN
Catherine BALDEREE
Jacob YOUN
No mention of Jesse, Benjamin or any other siblings. Perhaps the legatee Jacob was Jesse’s father? Furthermore, “The Descendents of George Adam YON” held by the Mormon Family History Center has Jacob YOUN’s daughters Elizabeth YON and Catherine YON as being born between 1790 and 1792. This clearly can’t be the case if the Jacob on this estate settlement died before 1800. Surely they would not marry before the age of 10.
A George YON (YOUN) was also listed as a witness on the original filing, as well as the Bill of Sale schedule. I presume this is the same George Adam YOUN who was granted 150 acres in Newberry County in February, 1770.
Anyway, any info or leads concerning Jesse’ ancestors would be greatly appreciated. I have hit a brick wall and need a little help :)
Thanks.
