According to my info, Richard W. Youmans enlisted (5/10/61)as a Private at Stockbridge, Calumet Co., WI, in the 5th WI Inf., Co.I. The record shows that he deserted in 1861 at Madison, WI. However you need to check the hospital records because another veteran was listed as a deserter and the record was amended in the 1890's to show that he was in the hospital and never left the state.

There is also an Ontario in Monroe Co., WI and there were a number of Youmans living in Monroe Co.
There was also a Richard Youmans who enlisted as a hospital steward, date & place not known
