A group of families from Mensfelden, Hessen-Nassau, settled in the Charlestown, Clark Co, IN area in the 1830's. My direct line arrived in 1834 when a couple named Philipp Wilhelm Heinrich Deuser and his wife Catharina Margaretha Schmidt settled there. Some of their grandchildren settled in Louisville, KY and other places further afield. Other families from that town in Germany also settled in the midwest.
The reason I thought this might be of interest to you is that Philipp Wilhelm Heinrich Deuser's great-grandfather married a woman named Zabel from Mensfelden in 1728. This might be the place of origin for your line too. At least it's something to check out. Good luck!
