Your Gottlieb Zabel is my great, great, grandfather. He was born May 30, 1816 in Milkowohauland Kries Scharnikau, Province Posen, Bromberg (present day Poland). He was married in 1841 to Elizabeth (or Elise) Staples. He, his wife and 5 children came to America in September, 1862 and lived in the neighborhood of St. Peter, MN. He died of dropsey and old age at the home of his daughter, Augusta (Zabel) Gutzmer near Rush River on Jan 13, 1900. [I have been told that Rush River is now named Le Seuer, MN, but I haven't yet confirmed this.] Elizabeth (Staples) Zabel died of cancer on October 26, 1885. This information comes from a compilation of the "Genealogy of the ZABEL and STAPLES FAMILIES" organized by several of the grandchildren of Gottleib and Elizabeth. I note that you are from the AUGUSTA branch of the family while I am from the Emil JULIUS branch. If you do not have a copy of the above genealogy, I would be happy to send it to you. If you have other information, I would appreciate having access to it.
