The St. Charles (Ill.) Review, Feb. 14, 1879

D. L. Zabriskie, the Pioneer man, took a little run out to Mt. Carroll, Carroll Cty., last week. He reported it a pleasant little city. A great deal like St. Charles though, somewhat aged and gray, and but little building going on. Mr. Carroll is, we believe, the home of Capt. R.M.A. Hawk, the newly elected congressman from the Fifth district, who, like Mr. Sherwin, is at present county clerk of his county.
