265 ZACEKs born between 1800 and 1900, Trencin Co

Hello All:
I have been reviewing the church records from St. Jacob's Maj. Apost. Roman Catholic parish located in Dubnica nad Vahom, Trencin Co, Slovakia, from the diocese of Nitra. From the Baptism Register entries for the years 1800-1900, there were about 265 new ZACEK babies born within this parish!!

For the Marriage Register entries, I have discovered 57 ZACEK weddings occurring between 1846-1905. I haven't counted the Death Register entries, yet...

ZACEK is the Slovak spelling, minus the special diacritical marks above the Z, C and A. It sounds like "zhahch-eck", with the "zh" making the same sound as the "s" in measure. These records have two Hungarian spellings, depending upon the priest who make the entries. One is spelled ZSACSEK, with an accent over the A; the other is spelled ZSATSEK, also with an accent over the A.

I found my great grandmother, of whom I have posted previous messages. Her name in Slovak was Katarina ZACEK, born 20.July.1883, in the village of Lieskovec, unto Jozef ZACEK and Eva KONICEK, his second wife. She was one of about 15 children total(still reviewing). Per her ship arrival record, she and her family were going to Milwaukee, WI to see her brother, Andrej ZACEK. They arrived at this destination from NYC, NY on/about June 7-10, 1905. They settled in Dodge Co, MN about 1918 coming directly from Milwaukee, WI.

If you think your ancestor came from the same parish as mine, please feel free to email me with your ancestor's name, approx. date of birth and the father's first name. I will do a look-up (no charge) whenever I have time. Be sure to include your reply-to email. Be patient, please, as I may take awhile to answer. If you think you may be related to either Katarina or Andrej of Milwaukee, I would love to hear from you!

Good luck in your research!
