I have done some research throughout the bible and our surname is indeed jewish. However, it is not representitive of our religion, throughout the early centuries AD, people started attaching a surname because of the volume of people. Zacharieh was the father of Joseph "father" of Jesus. They made a more Euro-friendly version of the name and used it as their surname. Where I live, South-western Ontario, Canada, it's a very popular name among the menonite communities. However, its hard to find the connection between our families.
In an interesting note, another Zacharias was just born, Isabelle. Congrats To Wade and Emily Zacharias.
