Hi Jim,
My grandfather, Claude Emerson Cowan, was born 21 Dec 1887 near Leonard in southern Fannin Co, TX. His mother, Jennie Lu Clower, is said to have died in Feb 1888, and his father Ed Cowan took him on horseback when he was ten days old to the Zachry family who were living in Rockwall County at the time. We do not know where Jennie died or where she was buried. He lived with the Zachry family until at least 1910; then went to Grayson Co TX where he
married a local girl in 1912.
Your uncle James Perry Zachry, called "Cousin Perry' in our family, and Claude Cowan seem to have been good friends when both were living In Clay Co. TX, and there are family stores about their adventures.
