I am more than 90% certain I have finally located subject grave yard. Note: James Zachry's dau married James Tinsley, and their dau (Mary Tinsley)married Phillip Greene on 12-8-1804, in Col Co GA. In Daniel Nathan Crumpton's 2007 book "Richmond County Georgia Land Records" both of James Zachary's plats (200 ac and 400 ac -- See pg 49, "22A")are delinated. That area today is primarially defined within Columbia County north of I-20, east of Baker Place Rd, and south of Chamblin Rd. Earlier records indicate that the grave yard was established along Euchee Creek on Zachry's 200 ac parcel and was about 10 yards by 10 yards. I viewed such a grave yard on high ground above Euchee Creek in Jan 2009. It is located on what is now the county landfill [Just north of the I-20 inspection Station]. It consisted of what appeared to be about 15 -- 20 sunken depressions with no headstones, all within an area of about 10 sq yards. Only one customary grave site was clearly visiable; it was opened and enpty, but was defined by 8", or more -- front, back and side marbil slabs that formed the inground tomb; the top slab/cover had been removed and placed just to the side of the grave. It is possible that the cover slab had been turned over and had writing on the other side -- but I could not tell. This had to have been an expensive burial... Leaves thickly covered the ground preventing any additional discoveries... Notify Administrator about this message?
