Kerry, In most cases, you won't find birth certificates until into the 20th century. You will have to use US census and other records. Eli Leslie Zane is on the List of Wyandotte Tribe of Indians 1867: "son of Hannah Zane sen., 15 in 1855, res Indian territory (or country)"
in father, Isaac's 1849 will as "fifth son" I believe that list is posted on the Wyandot Nation of Kansas Website.
Then, you need to find Elias on the 1860 and 1870 Federal and/or State census. That should show him with his parents. That would be about the only proof of descent that you would be able to find, unless you can find a will for Eli Leslie that names son, Elias. I doubt that you will be able to find a will for Eli Leslie Zane as he deserted his family in 1862 and disappeared.
Good luck, and let me know if I can be of further help.
I will try to check a few census for Elias.
