My father was Delaney DePew Zanes, born in Lower Alloways Creek, Salem, NJ July 20, 1877 approx. (I am a child of his old age.)
His parents, my grandparents, were James H. Zanes and Rebecca Pew. They had 9 children: George, Mary, Frank, Harry, Albert, Delaney, Lewis, William, and James.
I am trying to locate my great grandfather, the father of James H. Zanes. I do know that James H was born in Delaware approx 1836, yet, his parents were both born in NJ.
I also recall my father saying some of the family which came from Denmark maintained "Zane" while others added an "s". Apparently some of the Zane family went to the Ohio area (Ebenezer Zane, great-great grandfather of Zane Gray) and the other part of the family settled in NJ, not far from Philadelphia. It appears that many of them had the "s".
Any information concerning James H.Zanes'parents would be so appreciated.
