I have baen doing genealogy on the Zanes since 1970 and am very familiar with the Zanes who founded Zanesville, Ohio as I am descended from Jonathan Zane, brother of Col. Ebenezer Zane. Isaac Zane (another brother) had nothing to do with founding Zanesville as he was captured by Wyandots near the South Branch of the Potomac River (near present Romney, WV) when he was quite young and taken to central Ohio where there is now the small village of Zanesfield and Marsaille. He was taken by the Wyandots quite a number of years before his other brothers went west to Wheeling, WV and founded it and later a number of other Ohio towns along Zane's Trace. Isaac married the half French-Canadian daughter of Chief Tarhe and spent the remainder of his life with the Wyandots. Also, I know of no early Zanes in New York state. They camae originally to Newton, New Jersey, across from Philadelphia and a few went to Philadelphia. It was quite a bit later that they began spreading beyond that area into the rest of the US>
