Hi there Gerald,
I think there is a possibility that we may be related. I, too have been trying to research the Zani family of Malonno and Lumezzane. My father's name is Angelo Zani, his father's name was Giovanni Zani who had a brother Pietro Antonio Zani. Both men came to Australia, Giovanni on the Orsova in 1912 and Pietro Antonio a couple of years later as Giovanni was convinced there was going to be war in Italy.
Possibly your G.G father may have come from a region called Sondrio in Northern Italy as that was the name my Grandad Zani called his farm in Western Australia.
I know some of the family emigrated to America because my Nanna Louigia Zani told me so.
I hope this letter hasn't added to your confusion but it seemed just too much of a coincidence with the names of Giovanni Zani, Angelo Zani and Pietro Antonio Zani.
Incidentally my father Angelo was named after his Grandfather Angelo, apparently a tradition in Italy.
Thanks for putting up with my diatribe.
Jocelyn Paterson (nee Zani)
