ZARATE in the Philippines: ancestry and meaning
Posted by: Robert Zarate (ID *****1237) Date: August 25, 2003 at 06:45:05

I am Fr. Robert Zarate, a Salesian priest, currently residing and working as a missionary here in Tokyo, Japan. I come from Binan, Laguna. In the Philippines, my face is considered to be a real ZARATE, with its usual contours, chinky eyes, round nose and thick lips. My father is RUFO, the youngest of the 7 children of ROMAN by his second wife ASUNCION. I am trying to connect with other Zarate's in the Philippines who may know the ancestry connection or our clan's family tree. I can only reach up to my grandfather ROMAN. I do not even know where in Pangasinan did he come from. He passed away when my father was still a teenager way back in 1949. Also, I would like to know if there is somebody who could explain the meaning of our name. Of course, this might have been taken during the Spanish times, when there was the decree for Filipinos to take Spanish surnames. But what about its meaning? Your help will surely be appreciated. Please direct your responses to my e-mail. GOD BLESS!
