Hi Gini,
You can find information about old villages in the area which was once Russia by going to the JewishGen site at www.jewishgen.org

On their home page, there is a link to their Shtetl Seeker, which lists many old towns and villages. There is also a tremendous amount of information at Jewishgen about surnames and towns for anyone interested in Jewish genealogy.

I too am seeking information about the Zaretsky family. My grandfather Samuel Zaretsky came from Molodechno, near Vilna. That area is now in Belarus. He and other family members changed their name to Saretsky upon arrival in the US and many then changed the name further to Sarett.

Good luck on your research.
