I have followed the Zehring line with much interest. I do have a question about the name of the wife of Christian Zehring (1755-1832) because there is a tombstone inscription recorded on the Lebanon County PAGen website for Walmer's Cemetery. Palmyra, Lebanon Co., PA that is as follows: ZEHRING Maria Barbara UMBERGER 1750 -3 Aug 1783 Sp Christian ZEHRING (ZEHRUNG) I am trying to get this doubled checked. I realize that Wilson Zaring's materials has her listed as a Anna Christine and so everybody has the same information. It appears we may have more than one name mystery with the Zehring line - it is fun poking around tombstones!! My great great grandmother was Elizabeth Ann Zehring (1852-1914)whose father was Rev Jacob Decker Zehring (1817-1887). Rev Jacob Decker Zehring's father was John Zehring whose Walmer's Cemetery tombstone reads ZEHRING John 10 Jan 1791- 23 May 1867 wife Eva Barbara DECKER Eva Barbara Decker's father was Johan Jacob Decker who had two wives Eva Barbara Zehring and Catherine Zehring, mother of Eva Babara Decker. Catherine and Eva Babara Zehring were sisters according to Egle's documentation. I do not know what Wilson Zaring's documentation shows. John Zehring was the son of Christian Zehring (1755-1832) and his 2nd wife Anna Marie Rauch. Christian's 1st wife was a Umberger - everybody agrees - just a question about the first name. According to Wilson Zaring's documentation it is Anna Christine and according to a tombstone it may be Maria Barbara or maybe Christian had a third wife and Anna Christine and Maria Barbara are sisters?? Elizabeth Ann Zehring's (1852-1914) first husband was John S. Spangler (28 March 1851- 7 Feb 1878) John S. Spangler's middle name was not Samuel, as has been recorded by some, it was Sylvester - acording to my family documents. John Sylvester Spangler was my great great grandfather. I am a descendent of Howard Jacob Spangler his son. My grandfather John Sylvester Spangler was named after his grandfather or so I have been told. But we can all agree that the name on the tombstone is John S. Spangler! I think the use of Samuel as a middle name may come from his other son Elder Samuel Spangler - but that is just a guess. Albert T Spangler was not born in 1873. His name appears on John S. Spangler's tombstone. The following data is inscribed on that tombstome: SPANGLER John S 28 Mar 1851 -- 7 Feb 1878 ; Age 26 y 10 m 9 d; (right beneath is recorded) Albert T. Son of John S & Eliz. Spangler Died Jan 30, 1878 Age 2 mo 16 days (father and son died within one week of each other). The basic information of John S. Spangler's tombstone can be found on the Lebanon Co. PAGen website for Walmer's Cemetery. The rest was taken from a picture of the tombstone and recorded by my mother Lilly May Spangler (John Sylvester, Howard Jacob, John Sylvester Spangler). Also Elizabeth Ann Zehring Spangler remarried to a Adam L Gottshall whose daughter Sara Gottshall corresponded with my mother. I have several family documents which provide additional support for this information. The folowing is found on the Walmer's Church Cemetery Palmyra, Lebanon Co., PA PAGen website: DECKER Catharine ZEHRING 14 Jul 1772-7 Jul 1844 Johann Jacob DECKER DECKER David 8 Feb 1816-26 Dec 1836[Johann Jacob & Catharine ZEHRING DECKER] DECKER Johann Jacob 19 Apr 1757-24 Feb 1843 Eva Barbara ZEHRING & Catharine ZEHRING (they were sisters and both daughters of Ludwig (Henry,Johannes or Ludwig)) SPANGLER John S 28 Mar 1851-7 Feb 1878 ZEHRING Maria Barbara UMBERGER 1750- 3 Aug 1783 Christian ZEHRING (ZEHRUNG) ZEHRING Eva Barbara DECKER 1 Jan 1795-10 Aug 1868 John ZEHRING ZEHRING John 10 Jan 1791-23 May 1867 Eva Barbara DECKER It has been fun!!
