I'm searching for information about my 5G-grandmother, Sarah Lavica Zeigler/Zeagler. She was born about 1780 possibly in Orangeburg District SC--the identity of her parents has not been established.
Sarah married my 5G-grandfather, John Zeigler, about 1800 also possibly in Orangeburg District--I've not been able to locate their marriage license record. They had 10 known children: Joseph, Simpson, Robert, Catherine, Phillip, Nancy, Lavica, Caroline, Adeline and Mary Ann. Nancy is my 4G-grandmother, marrying my 4G-grandfather, John Valentine; Caroline married John Valentine's brother, Levi.
Sarah and John migrated from Orangeburg District SC to Jefferson and Franklin Cos, MS and finally to Catahoula Parish LA, where John and Sarah appear in the 1840 census. Sarah was appointed co-administrator of John's estate (along with son Robert) in a March 1849 probate action filed in Catahoula Parish--that is the last record of Sarah's life that I've been able to find so far. I don't have the full probate record for John, so I don't know how long Sarah continued to serve in this capacity.
It's been suggested by another family researcher that Sarah moved thereafter to live near her sons in Jasper, Texas. She would have been about 70 years old in 1850. The only son of hers I've found known to move to Jasper Co. TX was Robert, who appears as a head of household in the 1860 US census for the Newton Post Office area there (dwelling/family #211, sheet 401A). Sarah is not listed as living with them. I've not found any indication of migration to TX by Joseph, Simpson or Phillip.
I don't know when or where Sarah died or was buried.
Any information or leads about Sarah and her Lavica family would be appreciated.
Regards, John Reid
