Sadie, your ancestral line up to Simpson Zeagler has not been an easy one for me to research, and I'm not sure why. It starts with Simpson: I only have one child listed for him and his wife, Sarena, who is your 2G-grandfather, J.E. Zeagler. I also don't know the maiden name of your 3G-grandmother, Serena. The only record I've found for her so far is the 1880 Catahoula Parish LA census where she is found living with her son and his family at the age of 68.

It appears from the probate records in Catahoula Parish that Simpson had a falling out with his brother Robert and mother Sarah over the administration of the estate of his father, John Zeigler/Zeagler, who had died in Feb 1849. On 8 Nov 1850 and some 19 months after the original probate action was filed, Simpson brought a lawsuit against the estate, claiming that the assets of the estate were not being properly administered and asking that the assets be inventoried, appraised and sold at public auction. I haven't seen the original probate records so I don't know the final disposition, but we know that Robert left the area and migrated to Jasper Co TX, where he and his family appear in the 1860 census record. Sarah's whereabouts after the 1850 probate action, however, have not yet been determined.

If you have any other information about Simpson and Serena (including her maiden name), I would be very interested in reviewing it.

Regards, John Reid
