I am looking for relatives of sgt R.W. Zercher (1907-1944). Bob Zercher was the son of Frank W. and Ella Zercher, born in Hallam, York, Pennsylvania. He had a twin sister Pauline.
Bob enlisted as a soldier in the US Army Air Force (USAAF) September, 22 1942 in Harrisburg. He became a a ball turret gunner on a B-17G 'Karen B', home base Deopham Green in England. Returning from Mission 327 to Berlin's Friedrichstrasse station April, 29 1944 the crew crashlanded south of Ruurlo, the Netherlands. The crew was hidden for months by the Resistance, but due to betrayal Bob Zercher was arrested in Apeldoorn by the German Sicherheits Dienst September, 30 1944 and subsequently killed by the Germans October, 2 1944. I just finished a paper on the adventures of the 'Karen B' crew. If a member of the Zercher family is interested, it will be my pleasure to mail a copy of this paper.
