Starting Sept. 5, 2014, Genealogy.com will be making a big change. GenForum message boards, Family Tree Maker homepages, and the most popular articles will be preserved in a read-only format, while several other features will no longer be available, including member subscriptions and the Shop.

New: ZIEGENFUSS Surname Forum! ... next?

Now, I know all of you love leaving your messages all together in one surname forum, but there is now a ZIEGENFUSS SURNAME FORUM. This will be especially helpful for those whose surnames never changed much from the original spelling, such as those whose ancestors stayed in Pennsylvania.

Even though most of us all sprang from the same original family, I consider that there are 3 (or maybe 4) major differences in how the names were spelled, how the major family groups spread out, and how new researchers will search for us in the surname forums, so perhaps we ought to expand and add yet another board or two:

Existing surname boards:

ZICKEFOOSE (ancestors who went to Virginia, today's West Virginia)
ZIEGENFUSS (ancestors who mostly stayed in Pennsylvania and kept close to the original spelling)

I suggest 1 or 2 additional surname boards:

SIGAFOOSE (includes Sigafoos and Segafoose)
These families also came south into Maryland and Virginia

SICKAFOOSE ( or Sickafus or Sigerfoos)
These families also came south into Maryland then went to western Pennsylvainia or into Ohio.

If you feel these new boards are appropriate, ask GenForum to create them. (See the ADD FORUM link.) Then support them!
