I started this forum to provide other Ziegelmeyer's in their geneaology research and to further my own. Having a unique name le ike ours can make it difficult finding new information. Hopefully this forum will help others doing searches on our name to find each other. I have used Genforum for researching my wife's family and it has proven to be a valuable research tool.

Here is a quick outline of my family:

My Great, Great, Great, Great Grandfather was Joseph Ziegelmeyer. He was born in Reichshoffen in 1821. We haven't been able to trace back farther than him. I don't have any information on any possible siblings but I have a record of a Catherine Ziegelmeyer, who could have been Joseph's sister, who was born in 1822. She was the daughter of Hubert Ziegelmeyer and Barbe Siegel . No more detail on either of her parents .
Joseph married Catherine Wolljung in 1852 in Reichshoffen. They left France from the Port of Hauvre and arrived in New Orleans on January 1, 1855. They traveled with their 2 children and Joseph's mother Catherine.
They settled in Oldenberg, Indianna, which is about 40 miles north east of Cincinnati , Ohio. Cincinnati is well known for it's large German immigrant population. At one time Cincinnati had 2 daily German newspapers and many breweries. Joseph farmed his land in Indianna and had 3 additional children. He died in 1864. Catherine died in 1882 in Oldenberg.
