That's interesting. I've never heard our name spelled that way. I guess your grandfather thought the "S" sounded less German than the "Z".
An Uncle of mine ran into a dead end researching our name. After alot of frustration someone told him to try searching under "S" because the German pronounciation would have a "S" sound instead of a "Z". He found our name spelt SIEGELMEYER. Apparently this is a common mistake.
