I believe you are correct I found a letter from one of my husbands ancesters that goes"Legend is that Bartholde Kene was hearding sheep when a young prince was attacked by a wild boar and the sheepherder saved his life. Mr.Kene's name was changed to Ziegenmeyer, translated from this derivative meyer(herder of) ziegen(goats) hence "Ziegenmeyer". Also a portion of the yearly harvest of the province was allocated to the above and his heirs, in appreciation. This custom was finally abolished when Wihelm's Grandfather taking himself and two of his uncles and going before the magistrate to have this lien absolved. That would have been in the year 1841.
