Ziegemeier/Ziegelmeyer

My maiden name is Ziegemeier. I have been trying to research this name for the past 10 years. This family line is very small right now with only a handful of Ziegemeier's living.

I was told by a relative years ago, that the spelling of Ziegemeier had been changed from Ziegelmeyer long ago due to a family split, but I have not found proof of this.

The majority of Ziegemeiers in my family line lived in the St. Peters, St. Charles Co., MO area, and many are buried in All Saints Catholic Church Cemetary in St. Peters, MO, with a few in St. Charles, MO

My uncle tells me that Joachim Ziegemeier b. abt. 1828 immigrated from Germany through New Orleans, LA.

Does anyone know of a connection between Ziegemeier and Ziegelmeyer?

Thanks,
Susan Loftin
